Hindsight privacy policy

The short version

Hindsight is a local decision journal. It has no account, developer-operated backend, networking client, advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics SDK. The developer does not receive your journal.

Information stored on your device

Hindsight stores decision titles, notes, categories, stakes, dates, options, predictions and confidence, outcomes, reviews, surprises, lessons, an optional display name, and app preferences. Journal records use Apple's on-device SwiftData storage. Display name, reminder, onboarding, and haptic preferences use local app settings.

Hindsight's Insights screen calculates patterns and statistics on the device. Those calculations are not usage telemetry and are not sent to the developer.

Notifications

Review reminders are enabled by default. When you save a decision, Hindsight may ask for notification permission and schedule local reminders through iOS. A reminder can include a decision title or prediction, which may be visible in notification previews depending on your iOS settings. Hindsight does not use remote push notifications.

Demo data

You can add removable sample decisions. Current JSON and PDF exports include every decision present in the journal, including demo records.

Exporting and sharing

JSON and PDF exports can contain the full contents of your journal. Hindsight creates them locally and opens Apple's share sheet only after you request an export. Recovery mode can also export raw local database files. Share these files only with recipients you trust.

Deletion

Clear All Data deletes journal decisions, predictions, options, and reviews and then cancels their pending reminders. It does not currently clear the display name or app preferences. Deleting the app removes its active local app data from the device. Files you shared and Apple-managed device backups are outside Hindsight's control.

Permissions and purchases

Hindsight requests notification permission only for local reminders. It does not request location, camera, microphone, contacts, or photo-library access and has no in-app purchases.

Changes

This policy and the App Store disclosures will be updated before Hindsight adds networking, accounts, cloud sync, analytics, advertising, purchases, or other changed data handling.
