Patchwork privacy policy
Draft updated July 29, 2026
The short version
Patchwork is local-first and offline-first. It has no account, backend, ads, analytics, tracking, Firebase integration, or cloud sync. Its bundled geography data and your progress are processed on your device.
Location
Patchwork requests When In Use location access. It reads your location only when you tap Claim Current Patch, then resolves the Census ZIP Code Tabulation Area on your device. It does not use background location in version 1 and does not send your location to the developer.
Information stored on your device
Visited-patch progress, claim history, settings, and locally computed completion totals are stored with Apple's SwiftData framework. Geography assets are bundled read-only with the app.
Purchases
Optional Patchwork Pro purchases are handled by Apple through StoreKit. Patchwork reads verified entitlement status on the device and never receives your payment details. Apple's policies govern purchase processing and retention.
Exporting and deletion
Settings lets you export progress to a file you control, import an earlier export, or reset local progress. Files leave the app only when you choose a destination. Deleting the app removes its active local app data from the device. Shared files, Apple purchase records, and Apple-managed backups are outside Patchwork's control.
Geography note
Patchwork uses Census ZIP Code Tabulation Areas, which are ZIP-like statistical areas rather than official USPS ZIP boundaries.
Changes
This policy and the App Store disclosures will be updated before any changed data practice is released.
