Roam privacy policy

Draft updated July 29, 2026

The short version

Roam is a local-first travel map. It does not require an account, and the developer does not operate a Roam server or receive your saved travel history. Roam does not use advertising, advertising identifiers, cross-app tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs.

Location information stored on your device

If you enable tracking, Roam receives precise location samples from Apple's Core Location service, including in the background when you grant Always access. Roam uses those samples to match your position against bundled geographic boundaries.

The app stores local records that can include exact first-entry and last-seen latitude and longitude, ZIP Code Area visits and timestamps, duration, detection source and confidence, area names, notes, favorites and archive state, preferences, and diagnostic event-log rows that may include coordinates.

Diagnostic event logging is enabled by default and can be disabled in Settings. Roam also stores MetricKit performance and diagnostic reports locally when iOS supplies them.

Apple services and purchases

Roam uses Core Location for location delivery, MapKit for Apple map content, MetricKit for platform diagnostics, and StoreKit for the optional one-time Roam Plus purchase. Apple may process information needed to provide those services under Apple's policies. Roam does not upload its saved visit database to the developer.

Exporting and sharing

JSON and CSV exports may contain exact coordinates, timestamps, notes, and optional diagnostic event logs. Files remain local until you choose a destination in Apple's share sheet. The recipient or selected service controls a copy after sharing. The separate coverage card shows aggregate coverage rather than exact routes.

Your choices

You can decline or revoke location permission, use foreground-only access, disable background tracking, turn off diagnostic event logging, and delete tracked history. Without location permission, automatic visit tracking does not operate.

Deletion

Delete All Data removes tracked areas, visits, and diagnostic event-log rows. It does not remove saved settings, export files already generated, or local MetricKit report files. Deleting the app removes its active local app data from the device. Shared copies, Apple purchase records, and Apple-managed device backups are outside Roam's control.

Changes

This policy and the App Store privacy disclosures will be updated before Roam changes its location, networking, analytics, account, or sharing behavior.
