Umbra privacy policy

The short version

Umbra is a local-first sun and shade planner. It has no account, developer backend, cloud sync, advertising, analytics, tracking, or third-party packages. Camera frames, location-based solar calculations, and planning geometry are processed on your device.

Camera, motion, and location

Umbra requests camera access for its live augmented-reality planning view and When In Use location access to calculate the sun's position. Camera frames are not saved or uploaded by Umbra. Location is used while the app is open; you can instead enter a manual location.

Umbra uses Apple's CLGeocoder service to turn coordinates into an optional place label. Apple may process information needed to provide that system service under Apple's policies. Solar-position calculations themselves use local astronomy math.

Information stored on your device

Saved plans can include a chosen location, date and time, placed proxy objects, appearance settings, and locally generated snapshot images. This information remains in Umbra's app storage unless you choose to export or share it.

Sharing

When you export a snapshot, Umbra generates it locally and opens Apple's system share sheet. The image can include the selected date, time, location label or coordinates, and an approximate-results notice. You choose the destination; the recipient or selected service controls a copy after sharing.

Permissions and purchases

Umbra does not request contacts, microphone, photo-library, health, or notification access. Version 1 has no StoreKit purchase or subscription.

Deletion

You can delete saved plans inside the app. Deleting Umbra removes its active local app data from the device. Shared snapshots and Apple-managed device backups are outside Umbra's control.

Changes

This policy and the App Store disclosures will be updated before any changed data practice is released.
